The BC Museum of Mining is operated on a daily basis by a team of professional managers, who have a combined total of over 100 years in their chosen fields. The managers are supported by a dedicated team of employees who assist in the areas of education & programming, retail & visitor services and site management. We are also supported by teams of seasonal tour guides and restoration project staff. Read on to meet our team.
Mark Germyn
President, Britannia Beach Historical Society & Britannia Development Corporation
With over 35 years of executive international and domestic expertise in the tourism and visitors’ attractions industry, Mark provides strategic leadership and vision to all aspects of the business, including the BC Museum of Mining along with the development of the related Britannia Project expansion. He creates passion in the promotion of the mission through developing and providing truly memorable guest experiences.
Kirstin Clausen
Executive Director
With over 25 years experience as a Museum curator, educator and administrator, Kirstin has used her interest in history and the arts to make Museums vibrant and relevant to local community. She has been at the BC Museum of Mining for 8 years and has guided the Museum through many milestone projects. She measures her success by realizing benefits from a well run organization and by ensuring that the Museum makes a difference in people's lives.
Henry Gottardi
Site Manager
Henry Gottardi trained as an engineer and spent 15 years in industrial design prior to becoming a full time artist/artisan for 20 years. For the last 10 years this mixture of skills has enabled Henry to bring a mixture of creative and technical applications in dealing with the maintenance and restoration involved in a heritage site.
Diane Mitchell
Curator of Education & Collections
With a background in geology, Diane spent 12 years working for the National Museums of Scotland, before moving to BC to take up this position in 2007. Her career has seen a successful marriage of both education and curation, lending itself well to the BC Museum of Mining. At heart, she is an educator who strives to make Museum learning a stimulating, fun and engaging experience.
Carol Watts
Visitor Services & Retail Manager
Now at the Museum for 5 years Carol brings over 20 years experience in the fields of retail and guest services; including 10 years
at Vancouver Airport. Carol is also the event coordinator at the Museum, co-ordinating the annual Copper and Fire event as well as other on-site events.
Maggie MacKinnon
Accounting Manager
Maggie came to the BC Museum of Mining in 2005 as the Accounting Manager with 8 years experience in the financial field. As a member of a small team taking something wonderful and making it great Maggie enjoys being involved in the evolution of the Museum and is excited for its future.
Katherine Flett
Marketing Director
Katherine has been working in marketing and branding for more than 15 years. She has won awards for her work both nationally and internationally. Some of her clients include BC Rocky Mountaineer, BC Ministry of Finance, Dairyland Foods and the University of BC.
