Can I make a provisional booking and firm things up later?
Although we do not take provisional bookings, we can make a note of the dates you are interested in and give you 48 hours to check whether you can secure a bus.
Can you send the school an invoice – we will mail a cheque after we have our field trip?
Payment for all field trips is due at time of arrival and can be paid at the admission’s office. Payment can be made with a credit card or cheque. A Booking Confirmation with the amount owing is emailed to you when you have confirmed your booking. This can be used as an invoice for your school. Please note that we are not able to refund if you have less students than your cheque is made out for.
What is the minimum number of adults we must bring?
A minimum of 2 adults must accompany classrooms of up to 30 people. However, for students who require constant supervision, adhering to the full free ratio is recommended.
One of our students has an SEA. Is the SEA free of charge?
SEAs essential for 1:1 caring for students are complimentary in addition to the free adult ratio.
Can we do two programs back-to-back?
Yes, it is possible to book two programs back-to-back and this can be a powerful learning experience.
We are bringing 2 classes. Can they take different programs?
For classrooms totaling 32 students or more, we are able to conduct two programs. However, the durations of the 2 programs should be the same. For example if the 1st class takes “Mining: The Bigger Picture XL” at 3¼ hrs, and the 2nd class takes “What Use Are Minerals To Me” at 2¾ hrs, then the 2nd class should add on ½hr Gold Panning to extend their duration to match 3¼ hrs.
How many classes/students can you accommodate from one school at the same time?
We can accommodate a total group size of 144 including all chaperones. With multi-class bookings the students are rotated through different aspects of the program.
What is the maximum number in each group?
The maximum number in each group is 36 as the train can only accommodate 36 (students + chaperones). Larger groups are divided into multiples of 36.
Can we visit the Gift Shop?
Every class is welcome to visit our gift shop. If this is something your students would like to do, please let you Booking Coordinator know so they can add it into your tour schedule and add additional time before the bus pick-up.
Can students buy lunch there?
Yes! We have cold sandwiches, snacks and drinks available for purchace.
Can we stay after our program has finished?
Due to the scheduling of other programs, your class must depart at the designated departure time found on your confirmation document.
Can you shorten the program? We need to leave by ‘x’ time!
Because the programs are designed to meet the educational objectives, shortening of the programs is not recommended. The maximum they typically can be shortened is 15 minutes.
We have a student with accessibility programs. Can they participate in the program?

Can we have a custom program?
We are able to offer customized programming at a premium price-point.
What if it’s too cold to pan for gold?
If you have booked Gold Panning, and the weather is severely cold then we offer the option of Exhibit Time in lieu of Gold Panning.
Can teachers come to preview for free?
We offer teachers with a teacher ID and photo ID $5.00 off regular admission any time. However please be aware our school programs include specific elements to enhance the tours and are thus more comprehensive than our regular public guided tour.
Can we watch your movie?
Yes we recommend you watch it prior to your field trip. “Groundbreaking – The Britannia Mine Story” is available online so you can watch it in your classroom. It can be found here.
Is there anywhere for buses to park?
Yes. Our large parking lot includes a pull-in for buses to stop and passengers to disembark. The buses then park in the bus bays at the rear of the parking lot.
What do we do on arrival?
The designated group leader should go to our admissions desk to check in. Our Interpreters assigned to conduct your program will meet you and your students and proceed with orientation.

Can we book for next school year?
